Dustin Poirier is as old -school as possible – that is why it would not bother him to see the set of wide rules of the old FC Days returning for a single night.
Poirier, which is preparing for its final fight at the UFC 318 on July 19 in New Orleanswill try to capture the BMF title when he faces Max Hollway in a highly anticipated trilogy. It will be the last fight of the MMA of Poirier after a career extending over more than 16 years, and speaking of “The Ariel Helwani Show” by Non-Couronne ,, “ Poirier has described his perfect combat script for his song by Swan Octagone.

“I would be completely broken down to make a first 10 -minute round, if they did not allow (a) one night (tournament), five rounds with each fight – or even (a) a one -night tournament (with) three laps with each fight,” said Poirier. “It would be too many MMA tournaments in one night for a guy. I would make a long first round. Whatever we want, guy. I think it would be a cool idea.
“Bring back the first 10 -minute round. I love it. And also, if we do this in this way, come back very far. Let's take a first 10 -minute round, and you judge a fight as a whole. Not round. That's what I want.”
The promotion of pride that has disappeared in Japan has popularized a two -round format during its existence. Although the 10 -minute format in the first round and five minutes from the second round is much rarer, it still exists today in the Japanese Federation Rizin Fight if the two fighters accept. The notation fights as a whole and all the variants of ground strikes are as well alive in Japan, even with the usual three towers of MMA.

The format closest to the UFC of this model of pride came during its first days, when the rules were as limited as possible. In the future, however, Poirier likes the idea of adopting something more unique for the title BMF, and I will gladly launch things with Holloway.
“Whenever there is a fight for the BMF title, 10 minutes in the first round,” said Poirier. “The fights judged as a whole. The football kicks allowed. We get closer to the hands can touch (the ground) and you can always start someone (opposite).”

Everything is set up for Poirier to have a memorable return to the UFC 318, which he wins or loses. Obviously, the objective is to avoid the latter and to bounce back from its difficult title loss with the light champion of the UFC Islam Makhachev at the UFC 302 last June.

The concept of BMF title should initially be a unique show when Jorge Masvidal fought Nate Diaz at the UFC 244 in November 2019, according to the CEO of the UFC, Dana White. This changed when the promotion decided to resuscitate the strap of the first attempt by Poirier – a revenge match against Justin Gaethje in July 2023. Unfortunately for “The Diamond”, he failed via a KO in the second round.
Given how the stars have lined up so that Poirier gets a large Sendoff trilogy at the house in Louisiana, the icing at the top would be a permanent retirement of the title, making pear the last of its kind.
“It would be dop, guy,” said Poirier. “To be the last BMF and have this part in the history of the UFC, to fight the story. But that is anything, guy. I just want to get it. I never lost two in a row. So obviously, I lost my last fight against Islam – I plan to retire, keeping this same model.”
