Donald Trump said he would take a price of 100% on all films produced abroad, expanding his trade war in the film industry in order to thwart what he described as the “very fast death” of Hollywood.
The American president made this announcement on his Truth social platform on Sunday evening when he returned to Washington for a weekend in his seaside resort in Florida, although he did not offer more details.
“The film industry in America dies of a very rapid death. Other countries offer all kinds of incentives to keep our filmmakers and studios from the United States away. Hollywood and many other fields in the United States are devastated,” he wrote.

Gavin Newsom, the California Democratic Governor, proposed a tax incentive plan to support film production in the state, but Trump is considering tariffs to thwart international competition.
Trump added that he authorized the Commerce Department and the US trade representative to “immediately start the institute process a 100% price on all the films that enter our country that are produced in foreign countries”.
He concluded: “We want films made in America, once again!”
While Trump interrupted radical prices he had offered last month on a wide range of imports until July – giving his officials time to try to negotiate trade agreements with countries around the world – he has maintained samples affecting specific industries like cars and pharmaceuticals. We did not know how the samples would be applied to the films.
The film association refused to comment.
Trump's plan to apply prices to foreign films came in the midst of an explosion of publications on social networks in which the American president also called for reopening the notorious of Alcatraz prison, which has been closed for more than 60 years.
The American president said that Alcatraz, who is on an island off the coast of San Francisco, was to be “considerably enlarged and rebuilt” to house “the most ruthless and violent delinquents in America”.
“The reopening of Alcatraz will serve as a symbol of law, order and justice,” wrote Trump on Truth Social.
The declaration led to a rapid reprimand of Nancy Pelosi, the former president of the Chamber and Democratic representative of California.
In a PublishPelosi said that the president's proposal was “no matter”.
“Alcatraz closed its doors as a federal penitentiary more than sixty years ago. It is now a very popular national park and a major tourist attraction,” she added.
