Antigovernmental demonstrations broke out in Israel, just hours after the cabinet of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Approved plans to enter all Gaza.
Hundreds of people gathered outside the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, calling for an agreement with Hamas to secure the release of the hostages that are still held in Gaza.
The Israeli cabinet has approved plans to capture the entire Gaza Strip and to stay on Palestinian territory for an unspecified time, have declared two Israeli officials, a decision which, if implemented, would considerably extend Israel's operations there and probably attracts the fierce international opposition.
“There is no reason to continue with this war. What we have done for a year and a half, last years and a half years and we could not succeed, we will not be able to do it now,” said Miri Wolf, one of the demonstrators.
“They (the Israeli government) just want to hold the Gaza Strip and make a new colony there. They will stay there, the soldiers will be killed and the hostages will return to black bags. This is what will happen,” she added.
The new plan, which, according to officials, was intended to help Israel achieve its war objectives to defeat Hamas and to release hostages, also calls for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to move in southern Gaza.
This would probably be equivalent to their forced displacement and would exacerbate an already disastrous humanitarian crisis.
Since Israel put an end to a ceasefire with the Hamas militant group in mid-March, he launched new strikes on the territory that killed hundreds of people. It has captured territorial expanses and now controls around 50% of the coastal enclave.
Before the end of the truce, Israel interrupted all humanitarian aid on the territory, including food, fuel and water, triggering what would be the worst humanitarian crisis in almost 19 months of war.
The war began when Hamas activists attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people, most civilians.
Hamas has taken 251 people in hostages and currently has 59, 24 of whom are considered alive.
A subsequent Israeli offensive to date has killed 52,400 Palestinians to date, mainly women and children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health managed by Hamas whose figures do not distinguish between combatants and civilians.
The Israeli army said that 850 of its soldiers have died since the start of the war.
