Dei's goal is not to eliminate racial prejudices but to compensate

To the publisher: The United States chief John Roberts said, “the elimination of racial discrimination means eliminating all of this.” This lacks the point of Dei, which should not eliminate racial discrimination, but to compensate for the fact that it exists (“California defies Trump's order to certify that all school districts have eliminated Dei,»April 11). Employers and others have racial prejudices that influence hiring and other decisions. Unless we will counter these biases with initiatives like Dei, the best candidates will not necessarily be selected for schools, jobs, etc.

To the publisher: Good for California. If the state yielded, the Trump administration would simply be more threats, more requests and would provide more reasons to reduce funds, which it can do anyway. Better to say no for the moment.

To the publisher: If the Trump administration believes that Dei is illegal, why not call for the elimination of all public schools (“California defies Trump's order to certify that all school districts have eliminated Dei,»April 11)? Dei is anchored in public schools. They must accept all children and provide accommodation to ensure that no child is discriminated against.

Do we really want to replace public schools with home education and private schools? Will there be uniform standards? Who will supervise and regulate them? How will they be funded? I would prefer Trump to focus on significant reforms for public schools that come under 21st century challenges.
