The Olympian Cindy Ngamba says that it will suffer surgery to “correct” the problem that prevented it from making its professional boxing in March.
The 26-year-old was preparing for a medium-léger weight competition at the Royal Albert Hall but was withdrawn for medical reasons One day before the planned fight.
Ngamba, born in Cameroon, entered the story at the Paris Olympic Games from last year as the first member of Olympic refugee team to win a medal.
“I had a broken heart not to make my professional debut on March 7 (when) a routine pre-combat medical was revealed problems that prevented me from competing,” Ngamba wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.
Although she did not detail the nature of the problem, she added that she would have “surgery to correct things in the coming weeks” and return to a complete training later in the year.
