Beijing: The sound of Chinese fighter planes roared on the Egyptian pyramids and could echo through the Middle East, while Beijing wore military exercises with Cairo aimed at eclipizing the strategic influence of the United States in the volatile region.
The Chinese army on Monday (May 5) published videos of its fast jets, helicopters and transport aircraft flying over the Sahara and welcoming the inaugural exercises of the Air Force with Egypt as “a signal for improving military links and changing alliances”.
Complete exercises with one of the largest American security partners come when Washington turns more and more under President Donald Trump, allowing China to deepen links across North Africa and Invest billions in security projects.
“While Egypt looks beyond its traditional American partnership, a new era of cooperation approaches the sky of Cairo,” said a video published by the international division of the CCTV state diffuser, while a jet plane takes off in the night.
Global Times, a tabloid belonging to the Journal of the Communist Party in power, People's Daily, said that the “Eagles of Civilization 2025” exercises had established a basis for various potential cooperation between the soldiers of the two countries at a time when Egypt tries to upgrade its combat equipment, citing experts.
Analysts claim that 18 -day exercises also help Egypt to assert itself as a great regional power among Arab nations and North Africa in the midst of increasing regional turbulence.
“It is a great public diplomacy for (China), in particular in the Middle East,” said Eric Orlander, co-founder of the Southern Chinese-Mondial project.
“This is what brings people to the door so that they sell drones, sams, light arms, transport, and this.”
“Great regional power needs an air force, right?” He added.
