Saul “Canelo” Alvarez does not seem particularly interested this week – and who could blame him?
Saturday evening in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Mexican superstar fights for a 67th time as a professional. In the opposite corner is an opponent of William Scull (23-0, 9 KB) which he previously spread out – and in the process, corrected his title IBF Super Middleweight – due to a lack of call.

Throwing in the mix that “Canelo” will start this fight as a favorite of -3000 paries on Betmgm – The shortest ratings to which he has never challenged as a champion outside a victory of -4000 against Avni Yildirim in 2021 – and you can see why there is a lack of fire that burns in the heart of the multi -point world champion.
For the Alvarez, 34, his career is now strictly commercial.
This weekend competition will trigger an agreement of four combinations (which should extend to five) aligning “Canelo” and the Riyadh season for the next two years, which would have made $ 400 million in Alvarez of $ 400 million. But more importantly, Alvarez against Scull is likely to act as an expensive advertising and precursor for the reported superfight between “Canelo” and Terence Crawford.
Alvarez slept thanks to media obligations this week without giving too much – what could we learn about the unified 168 pound champion that we have not already discovered in the past two decades?

“There are always challenges,” he told a Dazn journalist. “It is not because he is not known that he is not a good fighter. I know the type of fighter he is and what he will bring. He has everything to win.
“It makes him even more dangerous. He knows how to use his scope. He is fast, tall, strong, but as I say, it is nothing new for me. I have fought against all style, all types, all types of boxing force, and I know that it will be a delicate fight, especially in the first laps. I am someone who has to adapt to everything at this stage.”
“Canelo” could have described any fighter. His professionalism and experience mean that sound stings are a bonus in 2025 – and as if he worked an exhausting quarter of work on a factory floor, he made just Enough to satisfy its Saudi employers.
At least, traveling to Saudi Arabia is a chance to check a box previously unoccupied in Alvarez's career. Only the public in Mexico and the United States saw him adorn a ring during his 20 years of fighting, and Turki Alashikh launched money to keep him away from normality.

If Scull was to beat “Canelo” this weekend, it would remain in history as one of the greatest upheavals of boxing – think of Buster Douglas against Mike Tyson, Hasim Rahman against Lennox Lewis, Andy Ruiz Jr. against Anthony Joshua. And it clearly emerges from the energy of Scull that he plans to add his name to this list. Would we touch on what he thinks differently?

“I don't want to be disrespectful to anyone, but I'm here to win and that's it,” Cuban told big arrivals on Tuesday. “I'm going to eat it. Now I focus on what I have to do. I am very excited because I am here to close mouths and do what I have to do on Saturday. ”
Alvarez has the right to fight this slightest magnitude on the promise of future plans. Despite the policy surrounding the titles of the alphabet, becoming “undisputed” is again worthy of recognition, and an obvious cherry on the best of the potential fight of September with Crawford.
Its curriculum vitae is already worthy of the status of the temple of fame and it is a compliment to “canelo” that, as followers of sweet science, we are constantly pinching for more important tests – anyone outside the kingdoms of David Benavidez or Dmitry Bivol has always been required to divide opinion.
But as he awaits another bland confrontation, lacking in catchy and catchy victories for recovery since his brightness in 2021 against the Caleb factory, questions rightly arise if the power of the stars of Alvarez begins to decline. Scull's invitation to Riyadh may well prove to be a clever decision in order to refresh this coil and the springboard “Canelo” in an essential conclusion of his legendary career.
They say that the best possible plans of mice and men are often bad – do not expect the same thing this week for the business of “canelo” Alvarez.
