Australian Prime Minister's Labor Party Anthony Albanese was re -elected for a second consecutive term of three years.
Opposition leader Peter Dutton, who heads the Conservative Liberal Party and lost his own siege in Parliament during the elections on Saturday, conceded defeat. He said, “We did not do well enough during this campaign, it's obvious this evening, and I accept full responsibility for this.”
Anthony Albanese will now be the first Australian leader to win consecutive elections since John Howard in 2004.
The first projections of the Australian electoral commission give the Labor Party of the center of center in power 70 seats and the conservative opposition coalition 24 seats in the Chamber of Representatives of 150 places in the country. Non -aligned minor parties and independent candidates were likely to win 13 seats.
It is not yet clear if the work will hold enough seats to form a majority government. Before this election, the Labor Party held a thin majority of 78 seats in the House of Representatives of 151 seats, which is reduced to 150 in the following parliament due to redistributions.
A loss of more than two seats would probably require the work to try to form a minority government with non -aligned legislators.
Key elections problems
The main problems of the electoral campaign were energy policy and inflation, the two main parties agree that the country faces a cost of living crisis.
The Conservative Liberal Party blamed inflation to government waste and increased interest rates, committing to eliminating more than one in five employment on the public service to reduce public spending.
This led to the brand of the Labor Party of the leader of the opposition “Doge-Y Dutton”, in reference to a similar position organized by US President Donald Trump and the Ministry of Government (DOGE) led by Elon Musk.
The two parties agreed to say that the country should reach net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, although Dutton defended in favor of relying more on nuclear energy rather than renewable energy sources, maintaining that this would cause a drop in electricity costs.
The Albanian government noted that relations with China has improved during its mandate, eliminating a certain number of trade barriers which had cost Australian exporters about $ 20 billion (11.37 billion euros) per year.
