Apple plans to move the assembly of all the iPhones sold in the United States in India next year, to rotate China to avoid stiffreported the Financial Times, citing people familiar with the issue.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comments from Reuters.
The trade war of American president Donald Trump pushes technological companies to diversify their supply chains. Apple positions India to play a key role in its manufacturing strategy, even if its suppliers in the country are currently producing only a small share of iphones sold worldwide.
Analysts had previously warned that consumer goods such as iPhones could be among the hardest affected by Trump's general prices and said that prices of the American iPhone could increase sharply due to Apple's high dependence on Chinese imports.
Higher prices could press the margins of Apple and give manufacturers of Android smartphones a competitive advantage.
Earlier this month, Washington granted a price Exclusions for smartphonesComputers and other electronics imported mainly from China, offering a certain relief to technological companies such as Apple.
The company sells more than 220 million iphones per year worldwide, with counterpoint research estimating one fifth of the total apparatus in the United States from India and the rest of China.
Foxconn and Tata, the main Apple suppliers in India operate three factories, with two others under construction.
In March, Foxconn and Tata sent almost $ 2 billion in India iphones to the United States, a record, according to customs data.
The Foxconn factory in Chennai is now operating on Sunday, usually one day off, two sources told Reuters. The factory produced 20 million iPhones last year, including the latest iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models.
