Angel City Name Alexander Straus from Bayern Munich, his new manager, fills a job that has been vacant since Becki tweed dismissal in December.
Straus will join the club on June 1, when its season in Germany ends. Straus, who joined Bayern in 2022, led the team to a 54-2-7 record and can win its third consecutive title Frauen-Bundesliga with a victory over Freiburg next weekend. He also took the Bayern to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Last year, Straus, 49, signed a two -year contract extension with Bayern Munich which was to take place until 2026. Before coming to Germany, he led for five clubs and with the national youth teams of his native Norway, working with players of men and women.
Angel City (2-0-2) is undefeated in four games – the best start in the history of the franchise – under the acting coach Sam Slow before Friday's home match with the Gotham FC. Under Tweed, the second head coach of the team in three seasons, Angel City joined to reach the playoffs in 2023, but collapsed in a first 7-13-6 last season, finishing 12th in the NWSL at 14 teams.
Rental is the first under Sports director Mark Parsons.
“When we decided to hire our head coach, we looked for specific characteristics such as a dominant play style, a winning winner at the highest level, an emphasis on players' development, a collaborative state of mind and a high performance leader. Alex adapts to this profile for each measure,” said Parsons in a press release. “He has always demonstrated an ability to unite teams for a common goal, inspire players to develop and play their peak and provide results in a coherent manner.”
