New York: The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced today that, on the basis of the American theater Critics Association, MUNY—The common name of the Municipal Theater Association of St. Louis – will be the recipient of the Tony Prize for the regional theater 2025. Honor, recognizing a regional theater company which has shown a continuous level of artistic success contributing to the growth of theater on a national scale, is accompanied by a subsidy of $ 25,000, made possible by the generous support of the city's national bank.
“We are delighted to honor the Muny with the Tony Award of Theater Tony this year,” said Jason Laks, president of the Broadway League, and Heatch Hitchens, president and chief executive officer of the American Theater Wing, in a joint declaration. “For more than a century, Muny has been a cultural cornerstone of Saint-Louis, producing first-class musicals in a different setting from the other. With a profound commitment to accessibility, offering more than 100,000 free tickets each season, and career development programs that feed future theater professionals, the Many exemplifies the spirit of our prize. We are more than treilors.
The Muny, now entering its 107th season in Saint-Louis, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the production of exceptional musical theater, accessible to all, continuing its remarkable tradition in Forest Park. As older and biggest outdoor musical theater in the country, the Mony welcomes more than 300,000 customers each summer for seven world class productions under the stars.
Other honorary prizes awarded by the 78th annual Tony Awards, which will be held on June 8 at the Radio City Music Hall, include the honors of Tony for excellence at the 2025 theater, which will go to the great performances, Michael Price, New 42, and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts; The Isabelle Stevenson Tony prize, who will be awarded to Celia Keenan-Bolger; And the special Tony Award for success for life at the theater, which will go to Harvey Prierstein.
Also announced are special prices to the musicians who make up the group of the musical Buena Vista Social Club (Marco Paguia, Music Director, Conductor/Pinaano; David Oquendo, Associate Music Director, Fuitar; Renesite; Renesites Avich, Tres; Gustavo Schhartz, Bass; Javier Días, Román Diaz, and Mauricio Herrera, Percussion; Paz, Woodwinds; and to the illusions and of Stranger Things: The First Shadow (Jamie Harrison, Chris Fisher, Gary Beestone and Edward Pierce).
