Fighting outside of Mexico or America for the first time as a professional, Alvarez walked at the start at first unusually 06:20, the local time to respond to the public at home.
As he often does, Alvarez slowly started to feel his opponent. He landed on the right and left of the body's hooks in the second round and Scull faucilé an uppercut through the guard of Alvarez in the third.
But Alvarez could not apply actual pressure and was made to be missed by the movement of Cuban Scull, 32 years old.
Scull returned to the corner smiling after the seventh, as if he felt that he was on the right track for the upheaval.
With little action occurring inside the ring, the cameras turned to a crawford with a bored appearance at the edge of the ring.
“Borders, there is too much race,” British referee Kieran McCann told the two fighters before the ninth.
Visibly bored by the approach of his opponent, Alvarez shook his head as he returned to his corner after the 10th.
Scull complained of low blows, most of which were legitimate punches, and Alvarez was warned of punches when his opponent turned his back to the 11th.
The closer dashboards reflected how none of the fighters affirmed their domination in the tedious competition.
“He came just to survive until the 12th round,” said Alvarez after his 63rd career victory.
“I hope September will be another type of fight.”
