Friday, Alex Ovechkin made the story. Washington Capital winger scored two goals against the Chicago Blackhawksmarking his 893 and 894th career objectives Ertinez Wayne Gretzky for the NHL marking record of all time.
Ovechkin's record goal came out of a power game in the third period, break 3-3 equality with Chicago. Shortly after the goal, Gretzky was broadcast to sing the praise of Ovechkin.
“This is what the game is. Alex was great for the game, ideal for Washington, ideal for his own country. It is wonderful. I'm very proud of him. I am proud of what I have accomplished and that is what makes our game so wonderful, the great athletes that we have and the wonderful people they are,” said Gretzky on the diffusion.
“He is special. You know, when (Mark) Messier retired and Gordie Howe retired and (Mario) Lemieux withdrew and that Bobby Orr withdrew, we thought:” Ok, what will happen to our game now? “And then came Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, and now we have (Connor) McDavid, (Nathan) Mackinnon, Matthew (Tkachuk),” added Gretzky. “Our game improves all the time, and that's why it's so special.”

Gretzky added that he hoped that Ovechkin would break the record that evening: “I hope it would happen tonight. It would be fun. He deserves it in front of fans,” he said.
Unfortunately, the game ended before Ovechkin could secure a hat trick. But the two goals alone were enough to pull the crowd.
Ovechkin reached the milestone in front of an electric crowd in the Washington One Arena capital. After reaching the goal, Ovechkin celebrated with the rest of his teammates on the ice, with the whole clearing of the capital bench to encourage their captain. Ovechkin also took a victory tour to celebrate with his family on the other side of the glass.

Even after Washington's 5-3 victory, the Blackhawks stayed on the ice to congratulate Ovechkin for the feat.
