There was a time in my life when I went to Louisville to watch the derby at Churchill Downs was on my list of buckets. I used to go to the nearest race track with my college friends to celebrate the opportunity, which often coincides with the first real spring weekend for us. Do not get me wrong, seeing the race in person is still on my list of buckets, but at the moment, in this season of life, it's on the night light. However, I intend to celebrate with a festival of Kentucky Derby? Yes, yes I do it. And this year, I discovered a recipe for making the official Kentucky Derby drink. It's true – a simple and delicious mint julep, the classic cocktail using one of my favorite bourbons, Old Forester.
Old Forester Classic Mint Julep Recipe:
Necessary ingredients:
- 2 Old Forester 86 Proof parts
- Simple syrup of 0.75 part
- 8-10 mint sheets (plus a bit of additional mint, for the garnish)
- Crushed ice
Necessary tools:
- Confess
- Traditional julep cut
Put the mint leaves and simple syrup in your traditional julep cup and confuse them together. Add the bourbon, fill the cup with crushed ice and stir. Garnish with a mint chain.
Taste like spring.
Appreciate!
