A 60 -year -old man was arrested early Thursday, March 6, after having pretended to practice dentistry without license from his home in Hesperia.
In January, police began investigating after learning that Uriel Tortres Cortes would have done dentistry in the 9300 block on 11th avenue, a residential street in Hesperia.
A search warrant served at Cortes at the home around 6:45 am Thursday revealed that he was practicing dentistry, and California Department of Consumer Affairs confirmed that he had no license, according to the sheriff department of San Bernardino County.
Cortes was arrested for suspicion of having prescribed a controlled substance without treatment, provided with controlled substances, forging or modifying an order, an unauthorized practice and practice dentistry without a valid license.
It was not immediately clear what dental procedures he was accused of doing, how many patient authorities say he had or what were their ages.
The officials said they were investigating how long Cortes would have practiced dentistry fraudulently, but they believe that it was doing it as a solo entity.
The law enforcement officials ask any person with relevant information to contact detectives at (760) 947-1500 or (760) 956-5001.
