China's export growth has shown resilience in April, defying the expectations of a trade war with the United States would begin to bite.
Exports increased by $ 8.1% compared to a year earlier, according to statistics from China Customs Administration published on Friday.
This was far ahead of the expectations of the analysts interviewed by Reuters of a growth of 1.9%, which would have been the slowest growth in almost a year, although it marked a slowdown of 12.4% in March.
Imports decreased 0.2% last month, the third consecutive month of decline.
The figures come while Washington and Beijing have descended into a trade war.
US President Donald Trump last month increased prices on most Chinese products to 145%, and said he would impose new samples on small value for the country. Beijing responded with 125%prices.
Both countries Launch of commercial negotiations in Geneva on Saturday. Treasury secretary Scott Bessent and trade representative Jamieson Greer will represent the United States, while China has declared that its delegation would be led by Vice-President He Lifeng, his best economic official.
It will be the first high-level meeting of both parties since January, when Chinese vice-president Han Zheng attended the inauguration of Trump. Bessent said the trade war “was not sustainable”.
