The local media said that Toda would have attacked the victim several times – first on the station's platform, before the victim rushed inside a metro car where Toda hunted him and hit her head several times.
Other passengers have apprehended Toda, who was arrested by the police on the spot, according to information.
Toda and the victim would not have known each other, said the local media, adding that another passenger who helped to apprehend the attacker also cuts his hand.
Violent crimes are relatively rare in Japan, which have a low murder rate and some of the most difficult firearms in the world.
