Five staff members were injured by intruders in Tokyo primary school: reports

Tokyo: Five staff members suffered minor injuries in a primary school in Tokyo after two men sent themselves to the scene on Thursday, May 8, without any immediate report of injured children, Japanese media said.

The men, who were apprehended, broke windows and entered a second year class, said Fuji TV, citing police sources.

Police did not immediately confirm the incident when contacted by AFP. Reports had previously said that four staff were injured.

The incident of the Tachikawa Daisan primary school west of the Japanese capital took place Thursday morning, according to the public broadcaster NHK.

The school website indicates that it has more than 500 students and more than 30 staff members. Japanese second year students are seven to eight years old.

School television images showed teams of emergency workers and police walking in and around the campus, while the worried neighbors were looking at him.

Violent crimes are relatively rare in Japan, which have a low murder rate and some of the most difficult firearms in the world.

But there are occasional violent attacks, including one by a man accused of attempted murder Thursday for an alleged knife attack on the Tokyo metro which would have injured two people at rush hour the day before.
