Animal rights activist Varun Virlan Said he is horrified by a video that has become viral – showing a woman seasoning, then frying two crabs when they were still alive!
Icymi … A tiktker published a kitchen video last week showing how she prepared a dish with blue crabs – she grabbed potatoes and corn, then the alive crustaceans themselves, before placing them, always alive, in a glass air fryer and cooking them for 15 minutes, with the camera showing their resignation.
We spoke to the Virlan, the director of digital media of Animal backing movementWho says that videos like these are exactly the problem of how crabs are excluded to be considered as protected animals – like dogs, cats, horses – and are more seen as vegetables than with animals.
VV asks people to note that the cruelty of the crab started long before the person of the tiktok even touches the air fryer … And how important it is that we understand the whole cycle of the abuse and the violence to which the creatures were submitted, starting when they were torn from their ocean home.
Virlan says that the poster simply for opinions – which is unacceptable in his opinion – and Tiktok must take responsibility for leaving content like this being published and becoming viral.
He ends his thought by saying that if you are dismayed by this video, think of all the other animals on the planet and that you extend empathy to all other sensitive animals – and urges people to use this anger for something good.

Porter, similar to Virlan, says that crabs deserve to be better treated, like pets … and says that they are much smarter than we think, remembering faces, pain and even sign language.
