Is a Trump parade really how much the dollars of taxpayers should be spent?

To the editor: President Trump wants to reduce billions of dollars from the programs on which we, the Americans, count – those who fight on climate change, support education, science and medical research, etc. – But he wants the government to finance a military parade celebrating its birthday which “will probably cost tens of millions of dollars” (“The army provides for a potential parade on Trump's birthday call for 6,600 soldiers”, “ May 2).

Meanwhile, the president of the room Mike Johnson said“President Trump's plan guarantees that each federal dollar of taxpayers spent is used to serve the American people, not an inflated bureaucracy or partisan pet projects.” If a parade for the president's birthday is not a partisan company project, I don't know what it is.

To the publisher: As a veteran proud of Vietnam, I am dismayed that Trump plans a huge military parade in Washington, DC, the day of his birthday. Apparently, the parade is to honor the 250th anniversary of the American army. However, Trump has repeatedly rendered disrespectful comments to those who served and sacrificed for our country. I hope that millions of Americans, and in particular military veterans, will get up in opposition to the Ego parade proposed by Trump.

To the publisher: I do not support the use of my taxes to finance a ridiculous military parade. I support the financing of the programs that help the poor, support education, scientific research and the PBS and the NPR.

To the editor: I guess all these government cuts will help pay this wonderful spectacle. After all, what could be better than taking food from children's mouths to help pay the special day of our rock star? I can hardly contain my excitement.
