Manila: Two people, including a four-year-old girl, were killed and several others injured after a car crashed at the entrance to the Aquino International Airport in Manila (NAIA) on Sunday, May 4, said the Philippine Red Cross.
The airport said that “the vehicle accident” occurred earlier on Sunday when a car crashed through the outdoor balustrade and in the gateway near the NAIA terminal 1 entrance.
“We understand the concern that this incident caused, especially since the images have circulated on social networks. We urge the public not to speculate and wait for the verified updates, which will be published as soon as they are available,” Naia said in a statement.
The Philippine Red Cross, which replied on the scene, said that the incident had resulted in the death of two people, a male adult and a four-year-old girl.
The images shared by local media on social media platforms have shown certain people lying on the ground. The glass was broken through the entrance and the front of a black SUV was visibly damaged after hitting the airport doors.
Naia said that those who were injured were treated and that the vehicle driver is in police custody.
