Pakistan tested a ballistic missile on Saturday in the middle of increasing tensions with India after last week's deadly attack against tourists in the contested region of cashmere.

According to the Pakistani army, the surface surface missile has a range of 450 kilometers.

The launch of the Abdali weapon system aimed to ensure “operational preparation of troops and validation of key technical parameters”, including the advanced missile navigation system and increased maneuverability, said an army declaration.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated scientists, engineers and all people involved in the successful test.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said a few days earlier that Pakistan had “credible information” suggesting that India provided an imminent attack.

In a press release, Tarar promised a “very strong” response if Pakistan is attacked by its nuclear arm neighbor.

On Friday, Pakistan called on the Gulf Allies to help defuse tensions with India after the attack on April 22 at the cashmere administered by the Indians, in which 26 people – mainly Hindus – were killed.

India has accused Pakistan of orchestrating the assault, an affirmation that Islamabad has rejected.

The contested region of cashmere is divided between India and Pakistan, the two countries claiming it entirely.
