A first primatologist tries to bring a reason in the hundred men against One Gorilla Debate … explaining the main reason why a fight like this would not take place – and argue that it paints these beautiful creatures in a bad light.
We talked with Michael Stern – The former Primates Curator at the Philadelphia Zoo with years of experience in the study of gorillas both in captivity and in nature in Uganda – and, he tells us that the main reason why this debate is so silly is because a gorilla would look around, to see that it was in number and take off.

Stern says it is the equivalent of asking if a unicorn could shoot a dinosaur – or if a shark with a laser beam could explode a submarine!

The gorilla would realize that it was in a bad place, and probably sprinkled through the nearest men's line … by overthrowing one or two on the side while trying to run for that – no war for the Planet of the Apes here. Sorry, Chris Pontius – It looks like you are wrong on this one.
Michael explains the reason why people are so in this debate is because of the speed and strength of gorillas – and, he admits that they are super strong creatures … But they are milder giants than ferocious soldiers, and all this speech is really damaging to their representative.
For a primate that could in fact do damage to a group of men, Michael says that no further seeks than chimpanzee … several of which have attacked humans in the past.

Michael also told us about the New Nature Foundation – an organization of which he is a part seeks to stop deforestation in Africa through a variety of new technologies – in case People actually want to help primates instead of discussing their sense of fighting. Listen and see their website for more information.
So, it looks like the 100 humans will win this fight … But only because of a package – because this poor gorilla is just trying to live his life!
