Azerbaijani authorities said on Friday that two mass pits had been discovered in the Karabakh region, one near the city of Shusha and another near the city of Khojaly.

It is believed that the tombs contain the remains of gaping civilians during the first karabakh war.

Experts have unearthed bones and other fragments belonging to at least seven people. The evidence found points in the possibility that they were tortured before their death. Civilians were probably buried on the spot almost 25 years ago.

The second grave, near Shusha, contains remains pointing towards at least five individuals buried there. Karabakh was the site of mass killings during the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
