What should we do with the first trailer for the next film “The Smashing Machine” from rock? What is the ideal program for the UFC 317 during the so-called International Combat Week? And could the title of UFC heavy goods vehicles be more disputed at the moment?
All this and more in this week's postal bag. To ask your own question, hit @benfowlkesmma Or @ benfowlkes.social.bsky.
@ lexsimon.bsky.social: a chance, based on the trailer that Mark Kerr's film is about 7 out of 10?

It is unfair to draw too much firm conclusions based solely on the trailer of a film. (This is the warning that I will offer before going ahead by drawing conclusions according to the trailer.) But what confuses me is that it seems that what they are going here is a dramatized copy of the original documentary. I don't know why you would do that. Or for whom it would even be.
If you have not seen “The Smashing Machine”, the documentary of John Hyams 2002, you should. It is an incredible documentary that you are a fan of the MMA or not. Some scenes from the trailer seem to recreate, almost by word, things that we have seen in this documentary. It seems to be such a strange way to do this because, well, we already have this film. And it's a great film. So why do it again – even by giving it exactly the same title – only with actors instead of real people?
Perhaps the goal of showing us these scenes is to convince us that Dwayne Johnson really embodies Mark Kerr here and not only the same character he makes in all the other films. To this extent, it worked. It looks like Kerr, which is impressive.

But if you want to make a movie on a movie, you need to add something. You cannot just copy it and expect us to be impressed by the accuracy of everyone's representation. At this point, you do not make a film as much as to make an impression. Maybe “The Smashing Machine” (the 2025 version) will do more than that once we see everything. But I keep my low expectations for the moment.
@Worldsworsthero: What would be your main PPV card ideal for Ifw this summer?
The way things are preparing, Nothing less than Islam Makhachev against Ilia Topuria for the light title of the UFC would be a major disappointment in the main event. This is where we seem to lead, which is good, because it is a fight of monsters and there is no better time to do it.
You also have Alexandre Pantoja defending his fly weight title against Kai Kara-France in Co-Princhipal. It is the classic UFC movement to launch in a second fight of lower interest in order to strengthen the range and add more gold to the poster. It's a good fight. It will probably be exciting as long as it lasts, but will probably not move the needle for the casual combat fan.

I think the card could use at least one additional banger, that it means something for a specific division or not. Normally, this is where the UFC would call Justin Gaethje just to see what it does. And honestly? Having other light weights on the main map (just in case something happens to one of the guys from the main event) is not the worst absolute idea.
@Dogyee: DP and Max are reserved. What happens to the remaining 155ers? Islam / Charles / Jg / Hooker / Arman?
At the moment, we have essentially two light divisions: the one where the fighters are only interested in the extent that they directed the scale towards a fight for the title (Arman Tsarukyan, Mateusz Gamrot, guys like that), and the one we know and love these fighters and would look happy to fight in one of them fight the others (Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Dan Harther, SO FORTH).
Dustin Poirier against Max Holloway at UFC 318 is An excellent example of this last division. It's for the BMF belt, so you can't say that there are no participations, but whatever. We don't need a physical belt to tell us what it is or why we should look at.

As for what happens to everyone, I think many depends on the next light title fight. If it's Makhachev against Topuria, then the rest of the division must sit down and wait. A Topuria victory would give a new life to many contenders that Makhachev has already defeated. And a victory of Makhachev (according to what is happening in the next fight for the Welter weights) would leave us questions to stay in place or look for his fortune in other divisions.
There are still a lot in the air at 155 pounds. It's a good time to stay ready and keep your phone if you are someone in the top 10.
@Eyeofmihawk: how many eddies rooms would it take to beat a gorilla
Depends on the age of the gorilla. Because against the 48 -year -old version of Mariusz Pudzianowski, that Eddie Hall has also exceeded almost 70 pounds, He did very well. That said, it is not as if the man is a weapon of precision of martial arts mastery. Really all he has is the size and brute force, which are the main things on which the gorilla excels.

All this to say, I think 25 halls Eddie could do the work. Maybe 30 just to be safe. But whatever happens, you know it's going to be ugly.
@Titanmarsxs: If Jones is not ready for summer, who are you associated with? Do you get Jones at that time?
I would give Jon Jones until the end of the summer to accept a fight with Tom Aspinall this year. Ideally, the fight could be at the head of the UFC UFC autumn event in Madison Square Garden. If the leaves change and I have still not signed, unfold it and do Aspinall against Ciryl Gane or anyone.
But let's be very clear: Call Jones the “indisputable” heavyweight champion requires a desire to completely ignore what the words mean. At the moment, there is no longer any disputed title throughout the UFC. He did not beat the champion to become the champion, and he defended the belt against the best candidates. There is literally another UFC heavyweight champion that walks on earth. The title could not be more disputed.
@ Btm99_mma: yellow proud style cards (20% Fight Purse Fine) for the first glance or a low stroke.

We have just stopped eyes for the eyes / low blows during the night?

You will never stop them completely because many of these faults are accidental and cooked in a sport with finger without finger gloves and leg kicks. Sometimes people will be kicked in the groin or rotate them in the eyes. The objective is to limit it while finding a way to disincitate it.
I am reluctant to support everything that removes money from the fighters because they do so little, but you could be on something with the combination of fines and punctual deductions.
The simple fact of taking points is not enough (but it was more worth a test), because what does it matter if your eye help you finish the fight before it does not reach the dashboards? Once you are going to play with people 'money, however, you draw their attention. Let us simply ensure that all this good money goes to the opponent who was at fault. Or a kind of research funds in ophthalmology.
@Ewilcock: The Liberals won another election in the North. Do you want to give your reaction to Canadian Co-Manain?

First of all, I would like to tell my Canadian auditors of the podcast of the co-printing event, I also love you.
Second, I think there could be a few dozen people in the United States who know enough to have an informed opinion in the Canadian elections. I am not one of them.
