Podcast enthusiasts on crime, fans of the library series and the mystery series will all find something of interest to “listen to the lie”, the last Hit Book to get television treatment.
Universal will adapt the novel thriller in a dramatic series of the same name, the studio announced Sunday at Times Books Festival.
The best-seller of author Amy Tinera, published last March, follows Lucy in her quest to resolve the murder of the best friend Savvy, in which she is the main suspect. The television series, written by Rachel Shukert (“Nine perfect foreigners”, “ “The Baby-Sitters Club”) and executive produced by Sue Naegle and Ali Krug of Tintera, Shukert and Dinner Party Productions (Ali Krug (“Pam & Tommy”), is in development at UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
At the beginning of the novel, Lucy has been found wandering in the streets covered in the blood of her best friend Savvy for five years shortly after being murdered. After having moved to Los Angeles to start a new life, Lucy is forced to review her little birthplace in Texas – and the circumstances of Savvy's death – when the host of the Podcast on the crime “Listen to the lie” does the center of his next investigation.
Tintera, Naegle, Shukert and Jordan Moblo, executive vice-president of creative acquisitions and intellectual property management at Universal Studio Group, announced the project on Sunday at the Times Festival of Books, where the group joined Matt Brennan of Times for a round discussion About the adaptation of the book to TV entitled “A new approach to a television series”.
