Seoul: South Korea and the United States have agreed to develop a commercial set aimed at withdrawn New American prices Before the break on reciprocal prices was lifted in July, the Seoul delegation in Washington said after a first series of commercial negotiations.
The United States and South Korea had a “very successful” meeting on Thursday, April 24, said Scott Bessent, secretary of the US Treasury, Scott Bessent.
“We may evolve faster than I thought, and we will talk about technical terms next week,” he told journalists.
The Bessent and United States trade representative Jamieson Greer met with the South Korean Minister of Finance Choi Sang-Mok and the Minister of Industry Ahn Duk-Geun.
None of the two parties provided details on the possible agreements. South Korea said in a statement that it had requested exemptions from reciprocal American prices specific to articles, and that it offered cooperation on shipbuilding and energy and to treat commercial imbalances.
“I think we had a very good start today,” said Ahn.
“We also agreed to organize talks at work next week to determine the scope and structure of talks, in order to produce a” July package “of July 8.
Choi said that more talks will take place in South Korea on May 15 and 16 with Greer.
“Discussions will focus on four key areas: prices and non -pricing measures, economic security, investment cooperation and monetary policy,” said Choi.
Despite American optimism, sales experts expect the two parties to conclude an agreement before the June South Korea presidential election.
“It seems that South Korea is in prudent mode, while the United States is on a fast lane,” said Heo Yoon, international trade professor at Sogang University in Seoul.
