A small police plane crashed into the sea near a popular seaside town in Thailand, killing the six people on board, officials said.

The plane was making a test flight to prepare for the parachute training in the Hua Hin district before crashing around 8 am, said Royal Thai police spokesman Archayon Krahong.

The authorities did not immediately share the propeller plane model, but the photos of the scene seem to show an Otter DHC-6 Twin Viking DHC-6.

The plane crashed near Hua Hin airport, said the Prachuab Kiri Khan province department.

The photos show the plane in the sea about 100 meters from the shore. The body of the plane seemed to be broken in half.

The six on board were police, said Archayon.

Five of them died on the scene and one, the pilot, died later in the hospital, he said.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Archayon said those in charge collect evidence, including data from the plane black box.
