Wednesday, tensions evolved in Bosnia as a result of the information that agents of the Bosnian state security tried to arrest the Serbian President Bosniac pro-Russian, but were prevented by his armed police.

Milorad Dodik, the president of the Bosnian Republika Srpska entity, faces legal action for his separatist policies. The Bosnian courts issued an arrest warrant against Dodik in March after he did not appear for interrogation.

The details surrounding the events of Wednesday east of Sarajevo, where Dodik held meetings, were not clear.

A spokesperson for the State Investigation and Security Agency, or SIPA, Jelena Miovcic, said that agency members “had tried to implement an order (of the court), but members of SIPA were prevented by the Republika Srpska police.”

No violence has been reported and the photos of the scene published in the media seemed to show unarmed Bosnian police inspectors and a Serbian police outside a government building.

Bosnian Serbian television reported that SIPA agents left after “talking” to the Bosnian Serbian police. Dodik later said that he felt “well and safe” and that the Bosnian police had no authority at Republika Srpska.

The incident is added to tensions already raised in Bosnia which remains ethically divided long after a bloody war in 1992-1995 which killed 100,000 people and moved millions.

Dodik, who directs half led by the Serbian of Bosnia, has repeatedly called for the separation of the territory of the rest of Bosnia, fueling the fears of instability. He faced American and British sanctions for his separatism, but received the support of Moscow.
