To the editor: The story of the Mexican group whose visas have been dismissed, leading to the cancellation of their dates of tour in the United States, is among a certain number of worrying actions of the Trump administration to silence the speech and the speakers from which it disapproves (“The United States reveals the visas of members of the Mexican group accused of “glorifying” the ankle drug», April 2).
It seems that a photo of a person linked to a drug cartel was flashed on a screen during a concert outside Guadalajara. This is the indicated reason for the revocation of visas. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau is cited as said: “I firmly believe in freedom of expression, but that does not mean that the expression should be free of consequences.”
Yes! Yes, this is the case. Particularly the consequences imposed by the federal government. In particular against expression or people disadvantaged by the administration. This is precisely the expression that the first amendment is supposed to protect.
