The role model responded to the phone while going around a Holiday Inn Express gymnasium. The 27 -year -old singer explained that he was trying to do a training before his show Tampa, Florida, later in the evening. Born Tucker Pillsbury, the musician asking for the demand was about two-thirds of the path through the North American leg of his tour. While speaking of his second album, “Kansas Fore”, Pillsbury suddenly lost his thought and, through the camera of his phone, a panicked smile resumes his typical composure.
“Oh my God. There are fans outside the window,” said the singer, who had a draped hooded sweatshirt, barely covering his torso with patchwork tattoos. “This is the worst place I want to be seen.”
For the rest of the zoom call, it avoids the windows of the gymnasium and avoids fans that prowl the perimeter of the hotel. Since the release of his album last summer, the Maine's high singer has set up in a new renowned pocket – with Tiktok Virality and the obsessed fans on each corner. Almost every evening, the fans line up for hours to see Pillsbury scratching his guitar, singing his breaking songs and hoping to be “Sally” of this night, a tradition where he brings a fan (or a famous friend) on stage to dance with him for “Sally, when the wine exhausted”.
No place Like Tour started in November and it now approaches its end, with only a handful of American dates. But before closing the curtain, he brings his acoustics to the broken heart and his cowboy hat to Wiltern de la for two shows closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In an effort to keep the “exciting” tour, Pillsbury released “Kansas Plus (The long the most goodbye)”, last month. It is an extended version of his album focused on folk with four new tracks. He continues to cry a previous relationship (with Internet Taste, Emma Chamberlain), aspires to his hometown of the East Coast and guides the listeners through its stages of sorrow.
Originally, he thought he struck the right end with the bittersweet ballad “something, in a way, one day”, on the standard output of the disc. But with the opportunity to make a luxury and increase his new countryside touch, the singer realized that he had a slightly more definitive farewell in him. He landed on “The Longst Goodbye”, the revised final song, where Pillsbury always leaves the album Heartbreak open – singing: “I don't think I love you anymore / But I don't think I will never be sure”, that his last words.
“If I had to go from therapy mode on myself, I think I don't like firm ends in life, like our harshs or yes.” I don't know, I'm weird. I like the films where they all die at the end. “
After completing his headliner in April, Role Model returned to join Gracie Abrams during the Secret of Us Deluxe tour this summer.

He begins to detail his tour diet and cry the lack of outside time during days of show – being outside reminds him the most of the house. Heard in the Chart Americana Twangs which complete the “Kansas Plus”, these sounds are an ode to his education in Cape Elizabeth, in Maine. It aspires to its cobbled streets, with the city's red brick buildings and its surrounding pockets of nature.
“I would say that I miss Maine every day. I mean, above all to be in Tampa, ”explains Pillsbury, while he looks out of the window, describing a day of sinister rain in Florida. “Maine is like one of these places that has a sound. When you look at it, it's an easy place to mark as if it was like a film.”
When Pillsbury started working on his second album, after his first feature film in 2022 “RX”, he was not sure of the sound management in which he was heading. “RX” was a pop-La-Pop Ménagery of sensationalized sexual words and love melodies. His previous EPS (“Arizona in summer”, “Oh, how perfect” and “Our Little Angel”) invaded the line of melancholic chamber pop and bad mood rap. So, for his second album, he continued to test waters with different influences such as the Synth-Pop of the 80s and electronic music. But nothing stuck.
“It is difficult to write to S -. I can't do it. I tried and listening, you didn't believe you,” said Pillsbury. “Then, I just started playing the acoustic guitar in my living room and trying to write songs as I did, at the time. It was much more comfortable, credible and raw.”
While sitting on his sofa, fatty an instrument newly learned and determining what he meant, he was transported to be a student at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. In 2017, Pillsbury published his first EP, “Arizona in summer”, a four -track project that he recorded on the floor of his chamber closet. “Stolen Car”, a popular pop track from this EP, is originally what attracted the attention of the deceased rapper Mac Miller, who first helped Pillsbury to land a registration contract and revive his career.
Role Model says that his shows “feel like a real concert”, because he plays the guitar for 75% of the performance.

“It's a full moment of circle for me. I did not completely know what I was doing (on” Arizona in summer “”) and I think some of the best music can result from it, “said Pillsbury.” With “Kansas Plus”, I was able to start these songs in my living room on a guitar, without fully understanding how to play the guitar.
When he was signed for the first time in Interscope in 2018, the singer was thrown into several recording sessions where the songwriters asked him: “What do you think?” Or “How are you?” as a way to open. He says it takes a long time to warm up on people and be vulnerable like this in the studio was a challenge for his first projects. Nevertheless, he created earworms like “Hello!” and the hypnotic “Forever & More”, which has individually 50 million Spotify flows.
“I just remember getting out of the room and crying in the bathroom. He is simply stamped with his head. It made me ask me why I couldn't be (writing music) by myself, “said Pillsbury. “Why was I put in place with the songwriters in the first place, especially when I was signed with songs that I wrote myself? It is a confusing thing that happens and that it can certainly be of the head. I think it's for many artists, that's why I just wanted to go from secret mode to this album.”
By following the “secret mode”, he said that he was able to create one of his most sincere and mature recordings to date. He finished making airs like “Song masturbation” off the coast of “RX” – which he describes as a song “On myself and trying to make a nice walk of love”. He went to a more sober look at the way he manages sorrow and the country's evil.
From the sweet guitar scraper of “Frances”, a track where he tries to understand where he turned badly, to the self-depreciation “Scumbag” and “something, in a way, a day” where he still poses that they “are supposed to be”. But Pillsbury promises that the feeling is not translated into its live shows. He says he is good to separate the trauma from what he was going through when writing his song from his performance on stage – where everything he can think is to try not to forget his words.
“When I look at people in the crowd, I don't think about my past. I’m not trying to relive this on stage in front of people. I just don't want to see a bunch of people cry. I prefer to raise people, ”said Pillsbury. “So I try to do things with a smile to lighten the atmosphere. This is probably why I am kidding between each song. Comic relief.”
