Microbes living under the glacial cap of Antarctica can survive on the methane generated by the geothermal heat rising from the surface of the earth below the surface of the earth. The discovery could have implications to assess the life potential to survive the icy worlds beyond the earth.
“It could be hot spots for microbes that are suitable for living in these fields,” explains Gavin Piccione at Brown University in Rhode Island.
