The International Golf Federation has confirmed the addition by the IOC of a mixed team event, which will make its debut at La Riviera in 2028. It will take place after the male competition and before the women, with all at the Riviera Country Club.
“We are absolutely delighted to see a mixed team event added to the Los Angeles 2028 program,” said IGF executive director Antony Scanlon in a statement. “Golf has incredibly succeeded in Paris 2024, and while we continue to rely on the momentum of Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, we are delighted to attract even more attention to our sport thanks to this additional format. The athletes were very enthusiastic about their desire to play with their compatriots, and we are impatient to watch them behave together in Los Angeles. ”
The event in the mixed team will be disputed as a 36 -hole competition with 18 quartet holes (alternative shooting) for the first round, followed by 18 holes of four balls (best ball) for the last round.
There will be a maximum of one team per country, with teams made up of a man and a woman who are already qualified for individual Olympic golf competitions for men and women, according to the announcement.
This is the first golf competition of the Olympic team since the 1904 games.
