To the editor: Thank you for designed the cessation of federal funds in the first page libraries in your California section (“California libraries losing millions of funds after the end of Trump.», April 4). Although it is not as distant, perhaps, that cuts from the USAID or the US Ministry of Education, the elimination of library and library technology grant funds will have an impact on library services to thousands of people in California.
I am retired now, but for 10 years, I worked for the California State Library, which distributes funds of the federal library throughout the state. I administered and monitored many LSTA subsidies and evaluated their positive results. I saw thousands of young people benefit from homework assistance programs after state school, as well as its very effective summer reading program. I was also proud that the library helped veterans are constructively engaging with their communities. California needs its libraries and LSTA funds that support them.
