Many experts will explain the benefits daily creativity. It would always confuse me a little, because I thought that creativity was a feeling or a state of mind that would present itself as if by magic, a feeling of spontaneous inspiration that deserves to be seized. Over time, I realized that creativity is actually a practicaland flex creative muscles daily –especially When you don't want to, it's the key to getting used to it.
Lately, I started to take a day off every week only For me (a final privilege, and the one I do not hold for granted). Thanks to these daily respite, I have achieved something about my relationship with creativity – even if I like to be creative, I will often refuse the moment to practice creative practices. I will scroll my phone as a way to avoid them. The more I wonder why I need creativity And Why I avoid it, the more it has become easy to dive into creative practices more easily.
Today's message is to facilitate the approach with your own creative practice (because, as I know by a lot of personal experience, start -up is generally the most difficult part), regardless of the head space in which you are in every day. Whether you feel overwhelmed, you have the blues or you are a little dispersed, these short practices can help to flex your creative muscles in a way that heals, inspiring and above all, easy to do.
Whether you feel overwhelmed, you have the blues or you are a little dispersed, these short practices can help to flex your creative muscles in a way that heals, inspiring and above all, easy to do.
When you want an explosion of creativity but you don't know how to get into this state of mind, these are some of my favorite prompts to help you start.
Before you start, enter the right head space.
I like to start by finding a comfortable place to be motionless and connect with my body for a minute or two. Ask yourself what you are feeling right now and listen to the first answer that appears.
Do you feel stuck and stun inside your body? Do you feel frantic and mobilized? Do you feel lethargic and below? All these associations in the body are clues to what you need.
1. If you feel agitated …
… Try to dance at home for a few minutes (or half an hour!).
Or simply make the movement your body wants you to make. Sometimes your body simply needs a form of release and the point with this practice is to make a creative movement, whatever it can look like. My favorite song to dance? “Don't start now” with Dua Lipa.
2. If you feel bored or distracted …
…Try to scratch.
Get a notebook that is only for scribbles in order to have it like your Go-to. I'm going to have a pen that I really like, catch my notebook and give me a goal: fill out a page.
You can draw images or objects, or you can write words that come to your head. I do the latter in my free writing journal. I find that journalization After This process also tends to feel really good because the words that appear often create interesting associations to inspire my writing.
3. If you feel frantic …
… Try filling out a page with cursive writing.
Sometimes, when I am frantic, instead of meditating (which, do not get me wrong, is beneficial in itself!), I like to write in cursive with my favorite fountain pen. You can write simple sentences or sentences or, if you wish, you can write a simple assertion (for example, “slow down is good for you”).
The process is to focus on your calligraphy and the pen flow on paper. I tend to find it really soothing.
4. If you feel depressed …
… Try painting.
I think painting can be a really wonderful outlet, and paint something with bright colors can help you create something really happy. It is not a question of the execution or the finished product, but rather of being present with the brush, the paint and the paper. How do you feel to move the color on the page?
5. If you feel outdated …
… Try to cook.
If I feel outdated, cooking (or even just reading cooking books) makes me feel better. This prompt may not work for everyone, but I find it really relaxing.
It could be as simple as garnish an open sandwich with a handful of fresh herbs and olive oil, then placing it on a pretty plate. Or, you can open a copy of Master the art of French cuisine And spend the afternoon preparing a party. Listen to which approach would seem to you the most soothing.
6. If you feel low self -esteem …
… Try to be creative with your wardrobe.
When I feel like this, I will sometimes go through my closet and intentionally remove all the parts that do not do me good. From there, I often find it pleasant to bring together A creative outfit Or two that make me feel good. Finding new ways to create outfits with articles in which I know I feel incredible can really improve my mood. This can be as simple as associating your favorite dress with boots instead of apartments and adding a scarf around your neck, your hair or your handbag.
7. If you feel locked up …
… Try to create a floral arrangement.
I love to go out, cut flowers and greenery and organize them on a whim. (Head to your nearest trader Joe if you don't have a court to shoot!) You don't need big and beautiful flowers to make an interesting arrangement. Touch and feel the foliage and choose everything that calls you. Put them in a vase that makes you smile. Take your time to organize and let nature do most of the design work.
8. If you feel stuck …
… Try to style a shelf (or to reorganize the furniture in a room!).
I love reorganizing a small corner (or a large room) to renew my environment. Sometimes concentrate your energy on a separate task of what makes you feel stuck, like organizing your Books on a shelf Or reorganize furniture, can help you take off.
Do not forget: it is not a question of being strict with your creative practice. It is simply a question of honoring what you know that you need in a particular moment and to follow.
Good creation, people.
