Key points:
While states advanced with efforts to adopt artificial intelligence, the non -profit organization Southern Regional Education Board commission on AI in education published its first six recommendations for schools and post -secondary institutions.
Due to its large number of members, the regional extent, creation and early size, the president of the SREB, Stephen L. Pruitt, said that the Commission was about to produce critical recommendations which will not only inform the decision -makers of South education, but those of the country.
“The AI fundamentally changes the classroom and the workplace,” said Pruitt. “In this spirit, this commission works to ensure that they make strategic, practical and thoughtful recommendations.”
The commission should meet for another year and foresees to publish a second series of recommendations soon. Here are the first six:
Policy recommendation n ° 1: Establish state AI networks
States must establish artificial intelligence networks on a state scale so that people, groups and agencies can connect, communicate, collaborate and coordinate AI efforts in each state. These state -scale networks could possibly form a regional group of IA networks representatives at the level of the State who could meet regularly to share challenges and successes.
Policy recommendation n ° 2: develop targeted directives on AI
States must develop and maintain targeted advice for separate groups using, integrate or support the use of AI in education. States should include, for example, primary school students, middle school students, high school students, post -secondary students, teachers, administrators, teachers and post -secondary administrators.
Political recommendation n ° 3: provide high quality professional development
The K-12 state and post-secondary agencies should ensure leadership by working with local districts and institutions to develop plans to provide and encourage high quality professional development for AI. Plans should aim to improve students' learning.
Policy recommendation n ° 4: integrate into standards and programs
States must integrate into the standards and programs from kindergarten to 12th year on a state scale. AI knowledge and skills students need to prepare them for the success of the workforce.
Policy recommendation n ° 5: Evaluate local capacity and needs
States should develop and carry out assessments of AI needs in their states to determine the capacity of local districts, schools and post -secondary institutions to successfully integrate AI. These must be designed to help States determine which institution, district or school needs state support, what type of support and at what level.
Policy recommendation n ° 6: Develop resources allocation plans
States should develop detailed resource allocation plans for the implementation of AI in schools, school districts and post -secondary education institutions to guarantee that the implementation of AI is successful and lasting.
These plans should shed light on the tax notes of the state linked to education and AI.
The 60 -year -old members were created in February 2024. The members include decision -makers and education leaders and business leaders in the SREB region at 16 states.
